Royal Portrush Golf Club on the scenic Causeway coast has been unveiled as the new home of the 2012 Irish Open.

The decision to move the European Tour event northward from Killarney Co Kerry, comes on the back of the achievements of Northern Ireland's 3 major winners in the last two years.

All 3 players - McDowell and Clarke have homes in Portrush - backed the bid to bring the Irish Open to the town's famous links course.

The course offers a challenging enjoyable game:

The first five holes of the course are on diverse parkland along the banks of the Margy and Carey River (bordering the ruins of the 12th century Bonamargy Abbey)
From hole six onwards you are presented with some outstanding links golf holes running alongside the strand and between gorse and sand dunes - encompassing impressive views of the famous North Antrim Coastline, Scotland and the hills of Donegal
The rest of the course runs alongside the beach, before rising to the "top holes" with panoramic views (including the Mull of Kintyre, Rathlin Island and Ballycastle Bay).
